Eye Conditions Treated By Your Shreveport Optometrist

Is there something wrong with your eyes? If you have trouble seeing because of blurred vision, cloudy vision or dry eyes, you may have an eye condition. Fortunately, your Shreveport optometrists, Dr. Sam Silverblatt and Dr. Rachel Meyer-Borel treat a wide variety of eye problems. We can determine the cause of your eye problem and suggest a treatment plan that restores your vision.

Your eyes are complex organs. A transparent dome-shaped layer of tissue, known as the cornea, covers the eye. A lens at the front of your eye works with the cornea to focus light rays entering your eye. These light rays strike a light sensitive layer of tissue, known as the retina, lining the interior of the back of your eye. The retina converts the light into electrical signals and the optic nerve transmits these signals to the brain, which translates the signals into the images you perceive.

All the parts of your eye work together to create the clear, sharp images you see. If the cornea and lens do a poor job of focusing light on a precise point on the retina, for example, the images you see will be blurry. Many eye conditions can cause one or more parts of your eye to work poorly.

Glaucoma, Cataracts, and Other Eye Conditions Treated

Glaucoma damages your optic nerve. This eye condition is typically the result of high fluid pressure inside your eyes. While glaucoma is not curable and treatment cannot restore lost vision, treatment can halt the progression of vision loss.

Cataracts cloud the lens of your eye to blur your vision. Color may not appear as bright and vivid as they did before; oncoming car headlights may cause more glare.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects the macula, which is the spot on your retina responsible for “straight ahead” work, such as driving and reading.

Dry eye causes your eye to feel irritated, scratchy or gritty, or make it feel like there is something in your eye. You might experience a burning sensation, excessive watering and blurred vision.

Computer vision syndrome, also known as digital eyestrain, is a group of eye problems that result from prolonged use of a computer, smartphone, tablet or e-reader. Symptoms include eye discomfort and vision trouble; the level of discomfort associated with these symptoms tends to rise with the amount of digital device use. In other words, the longer you stare at an electronic screen, the worse your vision will be.

Astigmatism is the result of an imperfection in the curvature of your cornea, which prevents light from focusing correctly on your retina and distorts your vision. Astigmatism may also cause headaches and eyestrain, especially after reading or engaging in other visual tasks for a long time.
